2. You will not use your account to Spam, harass, or exploit other members in any way, via the forum, Private Messaging, or e-mail (if available). Anyone found in breach of this MAJOR rule will have their account suspended and/or revoked. 3. Vulgar, Abusive, Racist, and Sexist Language will not be tolerated. Heated debate is encouraged, but keep it relatively civil. Moderators reserve the right to ‘lock’ threads that are, in their opinion, ‘getting out of hand’ 4. No mass posting or flooding of the boards is allowed. Cross posting between forums is not permitted. Moderators will remove the post in the least appropriate area (Any posts in PRIVATE areas will NOT be moved. Instead the moderators will 'hide' or 'delete' posts). 5. Posts requesting spec. design work, cheap logo design or logo design ‘contests’ (other than contests that are part of a recognized design competition) will be deleted and your account terminated. If you wish to post for a legitimate job, you can request admission to The Design Cartel Insider forum (a private AND moderated forum), however the same rules apply, and all job postings must be pre-approved by moderators. 6. Forum users are encouraged to link to their sites in personal SIG lines, by joining The Cartel Design Network, joining our contributor list (by submitting tips, tutorials or articles), however Spam, affiliate, and other non-design related links will be deleted. If you wish to post a link to a design-related site feel free to do so in the Online Design Resources forum. Your signature and/or avatar image must adhere to our community standards and general guidelines. 7. Some forums have unique protocols. For example, Design work posted to The Exhibit Gallery (in the Cartel Galleries forum) is for display only. Criticism, if any, is to be of the constructive nature and any overly harsh posts will be deleted by the mods. The Critique Gallery on the other hand, is for professional critique and as such can be more frank and to the point. The moderators have been instructed to take a ‘Hands Off’ policy towards The Critique Gallery, within the general rules of the forum. Website and artwork critiques should be kept to the appropriate critique forums, and only when asked. 8. People who repeatedly and willfully break the rules of the forums, or who engage in rude, anti-social behavior will have their accounts disabled. If you have been banned from The Design Cartel, you will not be permitted to re-log on with a different user name or e-mail address. Previously banned members will be banned immediately (or once we're aware of their presence), regardless of their current behavior. If anyone has been banned once, it’s a pretty safe bet that they’ll be banned again so why waste the time and bandwidth? 9. The Design Cartel has a large number of forums on a series of different topics. Each forum has a ‘about’ mission statement post that explains the goal of the individual forums and what topics are appropriate. Posts that are unrelated to design or design issues should be posted in The Cartel Lounge forum. Generally speaking, The Cartel Lounge is the forum with the most subject latitude, and the moderators have been instructed to take a ‘Hands Off’ policy towards The Cartel Lounge, within the general rules of the forum. Keep in mind that posts have a 60 minute 'edit window' before they are locked down, so if you're going to say something in the 'heat of battle' remember that you will not be able to edit it after the 60 minutes has expired. Better to think about what you're going to post, rather than regretting it later. 10. If you post to an inappropriate forum, moderators may move your thread to the appropriate one or ask you to edit it. 11. New members are restricted from starting new discussion topics. We expect you to join a few threads in progress before you are permitted to start topics. This allows us to keep ‘drive by’ posters, whose usual goal is to Spam the board with inappropriate content links, to a minimum. Any 'drive by' spammers will have their accounts nuked immediately. 12. Do not post entire copyrighted articles from other sites and/or news sources. If you wish to reference an article or other site, you are permitted to post a brief (3 – 4 paragraphs) excerpt and link to the original source of the material. The Design Cartel is a site devoted to the encouragement of ideas and idea development, as well as the respect of copyright laws, so providing links is an appropriate way of giving credit where credit is due. 13. We reserve the right to ban anyone, for any reason, to delete any post for any reason, or to do whatever we deem necessary to run this web site and ensure an enjoyable experience for all involved. If you have an issue about a deleted, hidden, message or thread, you can post your complaint in the Talk to the Administrators and Moderators section. However, this forum is moderated and as such, your complaint has to be approved before it will be published. Bottom line - the moderators are volunteers so we expect you to be civil to them. Harassment or abuse of moderators will not be tolerated. 15. Treat the moderators with respect. Do not post messages that attack the moderators or administrators. Do not send harassing e-mails or private messages to the moderators. Do not post any private correspondence between you and a system administrator or moderator. Questions regarding administrators or The Design Cartel policies MUST be posted in the ‘Talk to the Administrators and Moderators’ forum. 16. Visitors to The Design Cartel are here by their own free accord and nobody is forcing you to post or read posts on the forums. Accordingly, we expect you to act in a way that is conducive to the community and positive to the nature of the forums. If you do not like The Design Cartel, other members of The Design Cartel, moderators or administrators, it's probably better that you exercise your right to leave the site. If we decide that you do not like our web site, our community or our mods and admins very much, then we’ll probably exercise our right to escort you out. 17. As this board evolves, so will these rules. It is your responsibility to check on these rules from time to time and to adhere to any new additions. Thank you.
